I worry a lot about being misunderstood on social media. Our lives are defined by our experiences and in turn who we are is both incredibly nuanced and never final product. Social media, its restrictive CMS, and our fleeting attention is ripe for miscommunication.
In last month's Editor's Letters (it's often very stream of consciousness), I was compelled to discuss what it means to take things for face value and how we need to rethink the impact of this line of thinking. We all extoll the same virtues, "be more empathetic" among other beliefs, but when push comes to shove and we're challenged, what are you really about?
A mysterious person by the name of Sean (through Proton Mail!) sent me some great thoughts:
"The only way to find a sustainable balance is to continuously challenge our preconceptions and adapt to circumstances which will naturally lead us to change. So many people fool themselves into thinking they're standing on a quintessential moral peak from which to look down in pity, anger, or embarrassment at those below them, when the reality is that they can only see a tiny piece of the full landscape, and that even that landscape will shift over time."
