This video is meant to be entertainment and an introduction to renewable energy inspired by a real case scenario. In the Hague, the district court delivered a judgment against Royal Dutch Shell, the parent company of the Shell group, which is one of the oil giants in the world. Under the ruling, Shell is obliged to cut its carbon emissions by 45% by the end of 2030, compared to 2019.
While this is surely a historic victory, it may not bring as great benefits as we expect it to do for the following reasons.
Firstly, energy demand is still rising. Oil and gas demand is far from peaking and supplies will be needed. Countries in Asia provide the lion’s share of growth. With the demand still rising, can we really reduce carbon emission with this ruling against Shell?
Some may suggest renewable energy as the alternative. Of course this is a great solution. However, we’re not yet ready to change from fossil fuels to renewable energy. The renewable energy sector is definitely booming, but not ready to meet energy demand from around the globe.
This explains why climate activists have got some unlikely cheerleaders in the oil capitals of Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi and Russia. Why? Asian countries, with their rising demands, will now go to oil companies in the Middle East and Russia. Shell’s loss means more business for them.

葛望平Steven Ko 實現零碳可持續性的先驅。 作為 O'right 的創始人,Steven 積極連接綠色供應鏈,成為世界上第一家完全實現“碳中和”理想的美容公司。最近獲得巴黎可持續美容領導獎的世界冠軍和日本 革命性牙膏榮獲Good Design Gold Award 2020年,雖然是中小企業,但O'right被RE100評選為15強,Green Steven Ko還受邀在APEC可持續發展峰會和COP25上擔任主講人。 COP25,他積極呼籲每一個產品都要進行碳足跡驗證,制定碳減排戰略,每一個公司和產品都應該實現零碳目標,以防止氣候變化。
Steven Ko is a pioneer in achieving zero-carbon sustainability. As the founder of O'right, Steven actively connects the green supply chain and became the world's first beauty company to fully realize the ideal of "carbon neutrality". The world champion who recently won the Paris Sustainable Beauty Leadership Award and Japan’s revolutionary toothpaste won the Good Design Gold Award in 2020. Although it is a small and medium-sized enterprise, O'right was selected as one of the top 15 by RE100. Green Steven Ko was also invited to participate in APEC Sustainable Served as a keynote speaker at the Development Summit and COP25. COP25, he actively called for carbon footprint verification for every product, formulating a carbon emission reduction strategy, and every company and product should achieve a zero-carbon goal to prevent climate change.

【封城下的未來駕駛概念】
你是否曾經思考「為駕駛而駕駛的未來會是什麼模樣」這個問題的答案為何?對此,包括英國零排放車輛辦公室(Office for Zero Emission Vehicles)、Niche Vehicle Network、Astheimer Design、BAMD Composites、Conjure 、 Potenza Technology等政府及企業團體便在去年疫情封城期間聯手設計與打造這輛名為Aura Concept的電動概念車。
如照片所示,這輛以天然複合纖維和平織布材質打造而成的電動雙坐敞篷跑車不僅沒有車頂和前擋風玻璃,其用來驅動車輛的後輪亦由車身鈑件完全遮蓋。根據官方簡介,Aura全車不但置一具馬達與兩個鋰電池模組,總計88kWh電池容量將可替車輛提供大約643公里續航力,同時平衡的車輛配重亦有助於提升操控時的動態表現。此外,10吋直立式中控螢幕為首的內裝則搭配有圓形方向盤顯示幕和Android Automotive OS作業系統。

Global warming is a big challenge for warm-blooded animals, which must maintain a constant internal body temperature. As anyone who’s experienced heatstroke can tell you, our bodies become severely stressed when we overheat.

Animals are dealing with global warming in various ways. Some move to cooler areas, such as closer to the poles or to higher ground. Some change the timing of key life events such as breeding and migration, so they take place at cooler times. And others evolve to change their body size to cool down more quickly.

Our new research examined another way animal species cope with climate change: by changing the size of their ears, tails, beaks and other appendages.

We found most documented examples of shape-shifting involve birds – specifically, increases in beak size. This includes several species of Australian parrots. Studies show the beak size of gang-gang cockatoos and red-rumped parrots has increased by between 4% and 10% since 1871. We found clear evidence that birds with smaller beaks are also less likely to survive hotter summers.

So while predicting how wildlife will respond to climate change is important, the best way to protect species into the future is to dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions and prevent as much global warming as possible.
