Mâinile mamei oblojesc și alină rănile.
Buzele mamei rostesc rugăciuni tăcute pentru ceilalți, niciodată pentru ea însăși.
Brațele mamei înconjoară, leagănă, adăpostesc, protejează.
Ochii mamei oglindesc emoțiile celorlalți, propriile emoții rămânând ascunse de ochii lumii.
Ochii mamei nu plâng lacrimi pentru sine, ci doar pentru copii. Și dacă Doamne ferește se întâmplă să plângă pentru sine, o fac doar departe de privirile cunoscuților pentru ca să nu deranjeze pe nimeni.
Mama este și ea om.
Și de asta uneori plângem pe întuneric, cu sentimente uriașe de vinovăție, ca și cum este greșit și nedrept față de copii să avem propriile sentimente și frustrări.
Și de asta uneori ne respingem emoțiile, nu ne dăm voie să simțim, nu ne permitem să fim.
Să fim o o persoană reală, un om cu nevoi.
Să ne lăsăm ochii să plângă și pentru noi, să ne lăsăm inima să bată pentru ce ne bucură sau pentru ce ne întristează.
Mama are corp de femeie.
Nu este dovadă de egoism să ne îngrijim.
Dragi mame, nu lăsați doar în grija altora să vă iubească.
Știu că vine atât de natural să oferiți iubire și să umpleți rezervoarele celorlați, dar nu uitați și de propriul rezervor.

你是否想過，是「因為有什麼樣的人⺠、才有什麼樣的政府」；還是「因為有什麼樣的政府，才有什麼樣的人⺠」？
作者認為，中共的「習近平政府」，自上任以來到現在為止面對（或造就）的政局，與明末、清末時期，有相當高的重合程度：均是內有政局動盪民心思變、外有強敵虎視眈眈，亂世之中政權崩潰——卻只是被另一個獨裁政體取代而已。
若期望亂局和平落幕，中國出現「改變（革）」，前人所提過的「民主化」或「聯省自治」等主張，有可能發生在近日中國嗎？
作者認為，民初的思想家胡適等人，曾經為中國指引出一條自下而上，以個人主義代替千年集體主義的明路。
例如胡適在《個人自由與社會進步──再談「五四運動」》中是這麼說的：「假的個人主義就是為我主義（Egoism），他的性質是只顧自己的利益，不管群眾的利益；真的個人主義是個性主義（Individuality），他的特性有兩種：一是獨立思想，不肯把別人的耳朵當耳朵、不肯把別人的眼睛當眼睛，不肯把別人的腦力當自己的腦力。二是個人對於自己思想信仰的結果要負完全責任，不怕權威，不怕監禁殺身，只認得真理，不認得個人的利害。」又說：「一個新社會、新國家，總是一些愛自由愛真理的人造成的，絕不是一班奴才造成的。」
然而遺憾的是，現實中，這樣的思潮並未擴大。集體民粹主義仍在威權治下於各地橫行，甚至越演越烈，終將導致災難性的結局。

我明白周遭發生的每一件人事物，都在邀請我成長。

我了解在任何情況下
我在正確的時間、在正確的地方，

所以我可以保持冷靜。

Today, I know, this is Authenticity.
As I began to love myself
I understood how much it can offend somebody if I try to force my desires on this person, even though I knew the time was not right
and the person was not ready for it,
and even though this person was me.
Today I call this Respect.
As I began to love myself
I stopped craving for a different life,
and I could see that everything
that surrounded me
was inviting me to grow.
Today I call this Maturity.
As I began to love myself
I understood that at any circumstance,
I am in the right place at the right time,
and everything happens at the exactly right moment.
So I could be calm.
Today I call this Self-Confidence.
As I began to love myself
I quit stealing my own time,
and I stopped designing huge projects
for the future.
Today, I only do what brings me joy and happiness,
things I love to do and that make my heart cheer,
and I do them in my own way
and in my own rhythm.
Today I call this Simplicity.
As I began to love myself
I freed myself of anything
that is no good for my health –
food, people, things, situations,
and everything that drew me down
and away from myself.
At first I called this attitude a healthy egoism.
Today I know it is Love of Oneself.

I quit trying to always be right,
and ever since
I was wrong less of the time.
Today I discovered that is Modesty.
As I began to love myself
I refused to go on living in the past
and worrying about the future.
Now, I only live for the moment,

that my mind can disturb me
and it can make me sick.
But as I connected it to my heart,

We no longer need to fear arguments,
confrontations or any kind of problems
with ourselves or others.
Even stars collide,
and out of their crashing, new worlds are born.
Today I know: This is Life!
