Bộ Dầu mỏ và các nguồn tài nguyên Ai Cập thông báo quốc gia này đã phát hiện một mỏ vàng khổng lồ ở sa mạc phía đông với trữ lượng khoảng 1 triệu ounce (hơn 35 tấn) và có tiềm năng khai thác lên tới 95%.

Phát hiện quan trọng này là kết quả của sự hợp tác đầu tư và thăm dò giữa Công ty Tài nguyên khoáng sản Shalateen cùng nhiều doanh nghiệp và tổ chức nhà nước khác như Cơ quan Tài nguyên khoáng sản Ai Cập (EMRA), Tổ chức Sản phẩm dịch vụ quốc gia (NSPO), Ngân hàng Đầu tư quốc gia (NIB) và Công ty Tài nguyên khoáng sản Ai Cập.

Trên cơ sở đó, một liên doanh giữa Công ty Shalateen và EMRA sẽ được thành lập để cùng thực hiện thăm dò, đưa doanh nghiệp này trở thành nhà khai thác vàng và tài nguyên thứ ba tại đất nước Bắc Phi, sau Công ty Sukari Gold Mining và Hammash Misr.
