10 years ago, Coco and I met in a phase of life where our surroundings were I can say, very toxic - but she always stood out as that good hearted, hard working, tough, loving girl. After we met we kicked off and the rest was history. As time went by, she went from a busy/ambitious-driven PR girl, who goes ALL IN and forgets to take care of herself when working - to a life/soul coach, a work-life balanced, subtle yet loving, powerful women that was living the life we both back then, once denied that we deserved. Fast forward to 2020, after my first business failed - I lost confidence in my surroundings, in myself, in relationships and I was living under branches of doubts. I couldn’t help but to surrender and look at myself in the mirror and said “ I AM GOING TO DEAL WITH YOU” . I grabbed my phone and texted Coco, and chose to believe in my own choice - which was to seek consultation from her, which I’m SO glad I did and the right-est thing I ever did. Its been a year and a half now after nearly over 30 hours of soul coaching with her ( an hour every two weeks ) and I am thankful to her and proud to say I have become a more self aware, content, intuitive, strong, less aggressive women thats got both my brains and heart together, functioning pretty well, in a healthy way. My surroundings and my friend circles have changed this past year after I started making right choices that were good for myself and life has been great to me. I believe good friends aren’t just the people that hang out with you everyday but its the ones that has good intentions and holds space for your best interest in their hearts. As Fukujuro's Alzheimer’s steadily got worse, with him starting to see invisible cats in broad daylight and calling out the name of his childhood dog, I decided to give him a living memorial in the form of a three-persons show of Fukujuro, my brother Yuji, and myself at Kaikai Kiki Gallery. Around that time, my mother, Itsuko, was getting worn down caring for him, so I did this event in part to cheer her up. For the occasion, I compiled all of Fukujuro's works into a book. Our generation, the generation largely known as otaku, have understood Japan's defeat in the Pacific War inevitably through the words and actions of our parents. At the root of the works we create therefore are the enormous sense of failure our parents had experienced and the vague doubts and despair we, their children, have held about the nation of Japan. In that sense, I thought that if someone were to ever research my work in the future, my father's and mother's stories would provide an additional layer for thinking about these times, so I made this book in earnest. Miwa Takahashi @m_.i_w_.a , who edited the book for us, came to Kaikai Kiki, leaving her position as deputy editor of Bijutsu Techo, the only art magazine in Japan. When the book was finished, she told me that she cried for the first time in her life for a completed book, although she didn't know why. I'm glad that I was able to hold this exhibition just before Fukujuro's illness worsened and he started to have lapses in consciousness. I, together with a group of entrepreneurs were invited for a meeting organised by MDEC (Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation, a body set up to move Malaysia’s digital sector forward). After joining the call and seeing the others I was like 👀👀👀 I don’t think I’ve ever felt the imposter syndrome this heavy. Imposter syndrome is when a person feels highly inadequate and doubts their abilities despite having clear achievements. I instantly came timid and felt like I wasn’t as good as them due to their experience and much older ages. (Have you felt this before? What did you do to overcome?) I prayed and spoke God’s word over my mind to silence the lies of the enemy and proceeded with the meeting. It went well overall. I’m here to remind you that God got you and you got this.
