Chronic exposure to radiation at doses lower than those which lead to acute radiation syndrome produces chronic radiation syndrome, which the West does not recognise.
Though the Russians do. Where high but "sub clinical' (in Western terms) (ie not acute radiation syndrome) chronic exposures exist, repeatedly it is seen that genetic defects become "normal" as does shortened life spans.
Even in Russia, the shortened life span due to radiogenic disease is dispute by authorities who actually have published the proof. Semipalatinsk and the Urals nuclear disasters have a lot in common. The same materials are involved. The dose required to induce CRS is high, but not so high as to produce ARS. The Russian concepts of radiogenic disease differ markedly from Western concepts. What is probabilistic in the West is seen as the result of ongoing system insult in Russia, with a predictable outcome. Not that it does anyone in Russia or Ukraine, or the Urals or Kazakstan any good.

同様な事象は、ヒロシマ（原子爆弾）、ベトナム（枯葉剤）、イラン（劣化ウラン弾）などで観察され続けている。
無論現代の日本においては、このような形で生まれてくる子はいない。外見的には、出生児の著しい低下という結果にしかならない。
少子化の中で埋没していくだけだろう。
しかし、低線量慢性被ばくが、確率的な遺伝子の修復ミス（Double Strand Break）により、遺伝子の不安定性を引き起こすことは、もはやよく知られた事実なのである。
