One common myth I want to bust is that mindfulness is only relaxation. While tranquility is definitely a part of meditating, there is the inevitable aspect of resilience and the application of discipline. We are already familiar with this in the physical yoga practice. In a posture, there are parts of the body that are to be open, relaxed and supported; there are also parts of the body that are to be active and engaged, protecting the body and keeping yourself present in the movement. In a mindfulness practice, there are parts of every moment where it may feel easy to lean in and to soften, and there may be parts that feel distracting or destabilizing or tiring. Feelings in the latter half are not failure.
