Found this issue at home from back in 2017. I just wanted to say, I support our frontline medical workers and I support the strike. The lives of our doctors and nurses are no shields to the government’s dereliction of duty. . . . Last time I read this journal was from back in 2017 when I was in Iceland. It is quite overwhelming, as a normal person, to keep seeing crises coming but unable to stop it. Governments always fail to invest in things in the moment that can keep us safe later, and this will keep happening if the people remain underrepresented in government. This is why we’ve been fighting since June, it is our civic duty to throw off an illegitimate authority.

Call it the Goddess Myth, spun with a little help doctors, activists, other moms.It tells us that breast is best; that if there is a choice between a vaginal birth and major surgery, you should want to push; that sending your baby to the hospital nursery for a few hours after giving birth is a dereliction of duty. Oh, and that you will feel–and look–radiant. The myth impacts all moms. Because they partly reflect our ideals, hospital and public-health policy are wrapped up with it. But even the best intentions can cause harm. The consequences-from pervasive feelings of guilt to accidentally starving an infant to death! Becoming a mother changed my life, making it more complex through demands as well as joys.
