The Value of Jesus’ Blood

“For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled, sanctify to the cleanness of the flesh: how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without defect to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? For this reason he is the mediator of a new covenant, since a death has occurred for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first covenant, that those who have been called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance. For where a last will and testament is, there must of necessity be the death of him who made it. For a will is in force where there has been death, for it is never in force while he who made it lives.” (Hebrews‬ ‭9:13-17‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

The wages of sin is death. This is the penalty of transgressions against the Ten Commandments.

Just one death was enough to redeem us and pay for all the sins of the world.

Think about the immense value of this person, Jesus Christ.

God the Son gave up His life so that through His death you might live.

The New Covenant of Grace is a will. In it, it is states that once you place your faith in Jesus as Lord, you receive the good things that belong to Him, including His perfect righteousness.

This will was paid for by Jesus’ shed blood, and it came into effect when Jesus died at the cross.

Jesus Bequeathed His Estate to You

Jesus did not die just to purchase our pardon from transgressions, but He also gave us everything good that belongs to Him.

The New Covenant of Grace is a will. In it, we are the heirs of a vast inheritance.

What Jesus did at the cross is essentially Him saying, “I am taking the penalty of everything bad you did, and in their place, everything good that I have, I bequeath to you.”

That is crazy! The first question would be, “Why would you do that, Jesus? I was not even nice to You—in fact, I sinned constantly against You like an enemy.”

We must realize that Jesus was sent by Abba God to do this. Jesus’ actions shows us the Father’s will.

Abba God did not want us to be separated from Him, so Jesus became “The Way” that leads back to Him.

There is no proper reason to pardon a vile criminal who behaves like your enemy, and bequeath him your entire inheritance, except for the reason of love.

It is only because God loves us that He designed this whole salvation plan, so that we would be spared from punishment and instead enjoy the abundance of His grace.

“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves has been born of God, and knows God. He who doesn’t love doesn’t know God, for God is love. By this God’s love was revealed in us, that God has sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son as the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Beloved, if God loved us in this way, we also ought to love one another. No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God remains in us, and his love has been perfected in us.” (1 John‬ ‭4:7-12‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

God has to punish sin, but love is who He is. One is a responsibility, the other is a heart’s desire.

When we see how much God loves us, we will not want to continue in hatred or bitterness. Instead, we will look up to Him and want to walk in the same kind of love as Him. God’s love will then have its perfect work completed in us.

This is like a blob of red paint being dropped into a glass of water and being fully stirred until the whole mixture is red. If you hear about His love and do not receive it with a receptive heart, it is like allowing the blob of paint to sink to the bottom of the glass without being mixed into the water.

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”” (John‬ ‭13:34-35‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Won’t you allow God’s love to have its intended effect in your heart? Jesus’ disciples are to be known by their love for one another. Christians are supposed to be the most loving people in this world, so let your good works done in love shine for God’s glory!

Holy Spirit Indwelling Old Testament Saints

Who says that the Holy Spirit did not indwell anyone in Old Testament times before the cross?

The following passages show some examples of men who had the Holy Spirit in them (in means “indwelling”, not just “on” which is the temporary anointing upon a person that lifts after the Spirit has completed His purpose).

Joseph had the Spirit of God in him:

“And Pharaoh said to his servants, “Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom is the Spirit of God?” Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Inasmuch as God has shown you all this, there is no one as discerning and wise as you.” (Genesis‬ ‭41:38-39‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)

Joshua had the Spirit of God in him (The Lord said so):

“And the LORD said to Moses: “Take Joshua the son of Nun with you, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay your hand on him; set him before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation, and inaugurate him in their sight.” (Numbers‬ ‭27:18-19‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)

Daniel had the Spirit of God in him:

“But at last Daniel came before me (his name is Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god; in him is the Spirit of the Holy God), and I told the dream before him, saying: “Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians, because I know that the Spirit of the Holy God is in you, and no secret troubles you, explain to me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and its interpretation.” (Daniel‬ ‭4:8-9‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)

Now, before you say that Pharaoh and Nebuchadnezzar are not trustworthy sources because they were pagans, do not forget that God uses rulers as mouthpieces sometimes—even those who did not have true faith in Him. An example would be Caiaphas the High Priest who kept on resisting Jesus:

“And one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all, nor do you consider that it is expedient for us that one man should die for the people, and not that the whole nation should perish.” Now this he did not say on his own authority; but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation, and not for that nation only, but also that He would gather together in one the children of God who were scattered abroad.” (John‬ ‭11:49-52‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)

Jesus said that those who don’t believe or heed His words are not of God, but of their father, the devil. Caiaphas may have held the office of high priest, but he was not a true believer in Yahweh since he kept opposing Jesus.

This makes him no holier than Pharaoh or Nebuchadnezzar.

It is interesting to note also that God called Nebuchadnezzar His servant, and later on, Nebuchadnezzar did place his faith in Yahweh.

“And now I have given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, My servant; and the beasts of the field I have also given him to serve him.” (Jeremiah‬ ‭27:6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)

The Holy Spirit cannot indwell a defiled spirit that is dead in sin. Since He was able to indwell Joseph, Joshua, and Daniel, this means that Jesus’ blood at the cross has always been effective to cleanse people from their sins. There were vessels fit for the Holy Spirit even in Old Testament times.

It was just God’s mystery hidden from the world, until the right time came to proclaim this truth openly. Some Old Testament saints tapped into this truth unknowingly, and received the benefits of God’s grace.

Consider how Enoch and Elijah, two men who lived before the cross, were able to be received into Heaven. They have never died and are still alive there. How can they have sin in them and be accepted in Heaven? They must have already been cleansed from their sins.
