WHAT DOES "Sekundär" MEAN?

“Sekundär“ is a philosophy, a way of life that means ‘second place’ in German.
The idea comes from the ancient Chinese philosophy of Daoism, against the Human-Centered Theory. Instead, we believe all things are closely linked and exist equally, however great or small; we stand behind all things on the earth and put the others in the ‘first’!
We stand apart from fashion’s modern value system. We do not view ourselves as number one; we do not chase standard beauty, we are different, we are ourselves.

Every year, Mazu (the patron goddess of seafarers) sets off on a pilgrimage from her home at Zhenlan Temple in Taichung’s Dajia District. This is the biggest Mazu pilgrimage in Taiwan in terms of the number of official participating brigades, or processional teams. It also has the largest number of followers who spontaneously join the procession along the way. The route of the nine-day, eight-night procession follows the path of early immigrants as they spread out across Taiwan. Apart from revisiting historical paths, the procession also strengthens the faith of local believers and helps them gain a deeper understanding of the significant cultural value behind this event. This ancient and elaborate sacrificial rite is a precious cultural asset. In recent years, the scale of the event has grown, becoming a classic example of how folk religion evolves in response to societal changes. In recent years, Dajia’s Mazu Pilgrimage has been named one of the world’s three biggest religious festivals by the Discovery Channel, and UNESCO has included Mazu beliefs and customs on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Having lived in Taiwan for 11 years, I’ve never heard of Jiao or a Rice Dragon. This year at Anxi Temple in Wutiaogang in Taisi in Yunlin, they’re holding the largest celebration in the Taoist religion, a Jiao.

Since this kind of celebration only happens once every 25 years, I’m really lucky to get this chance to see another special part of Taiwanese culture.

我住台灣這十年有不少次跟朋友去寺廟拜拜
Over my ten years living here in Taiwan, I’ve been to temples to pray with friends many times.

因為美國沒有很多像台灣這種寺廟,最一開始基本的作法都不會
Since we don’t have many temples like those here, in the beginning, I didn’t know how to pray.

另外每個寺廟拜拜的方式有一些小不同,
Additionally, the way you pray at different temples also varies a bit.

因此我開始去拜拜覺得超級..霹靂..無敵..尷尬!
This made me feel super duper awkward when I started going to temples!

所以我想跟台灣朋友還有美國朋友分享一下最基本的步驟
So, I wanted to share these basic steps with friends from Taiwan and abroad.

希望可以幫大家去寺廟的時候不像以前那麼尷尬
