Hamana’s large and delicate vessels are made from natural clay sourced from Shiga Prefecture in Japan, each finished with the artist’s own mineral glazes. Reposted from @blumandpoe Opening today, September 10 at Blum & Poe Los Angeles: You are invited to an exhibition of ceramic sculptures by Chiba, Japan-based artist Kazunori Hamana alongside works made in collaboration with fellow artist Yukiko Kuroda.     The surfaces of Hamana’s sculptures are variously rough, finger-textured, cracked, and fissured. His large and delicate vessels are made from natural clay sourced from Shiga Prefecture in Japan, each finished with Hamana’s own mineral glazes. Inspired by traditional Japanese tsubo, functional clay jars dating back to prehistoric times, he creates each sculpture by hand, making use of improvisation and experimentation and cultivating new, inventive techniques in shaping, glazing, coloring, and firing.    Hamana collaborates with Yukiko Kuroda on vessels that undergo the process of kintsugi (the art of repairing broken pottery). When I first started to learn bahasa, I was so bewildered over the usage of words and how quick my siblings were catching up. I was always the odd one left out with my tutor saying “it’s okay, you’ll master it. Different people have different frequencies of learning, but you’ll brace it through.” Over the years, I practice it a lot at home with my family; making loads of bahasa-speaking friends to even going for random classes and virtual competitions to dive deeper into the language... but to be quite frank, being around the Radio Televisyen Malaysia’s family (after almost 10 years MIA here and there) have been a cheery on top of everything I’ve worked so hard to achieve; which was to understand the language in a layman form despite sounding like a complete weirdo (majority of the time if I ever try to speak in a corporate setting). To say the least, it’s #never over. I’m STILL learning. Not just mastering the bahasa language, but life to the core. Going through it, the good and bad. The gracious lady you’re seeing next to me have been there since I stepped into the national TV station of Malaysia. She’s nothing, but a master in her own bliss that I adore so deeply. What I’ve assimilated from her (still am), is to learn (watch) from your mentor, but to not copy. Find your own voice and be loud on it. We’re all gifted in our own special ways, at the end of the day. Souls tend to stay around cus of the satisfactory reward and culture it embraces. It ends up cultivating the growth, happiness and satisfaction that moolah 💰 can never ever secure. That wraps up my random early morning write ups.
