我喜歡手握著碗的時候，好像手的形狀是為了捧著碗而設計… 還是反過來比較對。當我雙手捧著碗的時候，就是天下間最自然的動作，是付出也同時是接納。碗的謙虛和纖細，讓我常常要感恩它是長成這樣子。

I am fond of bowls, the form that fits nicely into the palm of your hands, it has a special quality for me. This very basic expression of having both hands clasped together, to cherish and receive. The form of bowls is humble, delicate and feelings of gratitude.

What else did I get up to this weekend?

Taking social distancing to the max by doing a hike on a deserted island: Bluff Island!

It's just across from Basalt Island and while the beach was crowded, the clasped hand rock was not and we got dozens of good photos!

Circa 2014-India
On my Travelogue filming in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. Whilst filming in the streets, this beautiful bright eyed little girl walks up hurriedly to me, 1 baby sister in her arms & the other clasped to her right hip. As she approached,my heart sank. They had no shoes or slippers on their tiny feet

“Tum philm staar ho?!” (“You are a movie star?!”) she squealed excitedly in Hindi. I laughed so hard! I asked where her parents were,in broken-conversational Hindi (Bollywood movie-fan-advantage)
She shrugged her shoulders high & boldly reached out for my hair. With every stroke, her eyes twinkled as she said, “pyaari” (“lovely”) ..
I was choking tears. These street children were barely clothed & yet had the biggest smile on their faces. I tickled the baby in her arms

They continued to stay & watched in awe as our cameras rolled. When we wrapped filming, I rushed to our van to get my supply of chocolates,candy & the only shawl I brought with me on the trip
They squealed in delight as I passed the purple plastic to the hip clasping little one. It was time to go & I hugged them tight,told them to keep safe on the streets
3 very brave little girls all alone with no one to protect them

They waved & smiled as I made my way back to the vehicle with an aching heart. I couldn’t.I stopped in my tracks, removed my shoes, turned around & passed my nude flats to the big sister.She took them gently & uttered “pyaari!” clutching my chin in her calloused little palms.I hugged her one last time. As we drove past, I smiled my biggest smile for them, welling tears.I was relieved or rather pacified my heart, they would have the big warm shawl & some chocolates to keep warm & happy for some days more

This little girl & her sisters changed my life that day in ways they will never know. It hit me. Doesnt really doesn’t matter if the glass is empty or full. I am thankful to have a glass with something in it
And to always be consciously thankful.Because if you are really thankful, you share

Bluff Island is one of the Ung Kong Group Islands in Port Shelter, Sai Kung. It's a popular island for snorkeling and junk trips, but we were actually there for the Clasped Hands Rock!
