‎שׁלום - Shalom

‎שׁ shin - Consuming fire
‎ל lamed - Shepherd staff
‎ו vav - Nail
‎ם mem - Blood/water

If you just put the meanings of each letter of the Hebrew word “shalom” together, you’ll see a powerful Christ-exalting truth:
The fire of God’s wrath fell upon our good Shepherd, as nails fastened Him to the cross. Jesus was drenched in His own blood, pouring forth crimson rivers of precious, divine life.

It’s all perfectly expressed by the prophet Isaiah in this verse:

“But He was pierced because of our transgressions, crushed because of our iniquities. The chastisement for our shalom was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.” ‭‭(Isaiah‬ ‭53:5‬ ‭TLV‬‬)

This is why we can have shalom—peace with God and peace in our conscience. Our sin debt is paid, we are forever righteous before God!

Shalom is a rich word also meaning wholeness in every area.
If you’re battling sickness, why can you believe for your body to be made whole?

It’s because Jesus took your punishment and poured out His life (the life is in the blood) in exchange for yours.

“I am the good shepherd. I know my own, and I’m known by my own; even as the Father knows me, and I know the Father. I lay down my life for the sheep.” ‭‭(John‬ ‭10:14-15‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

When you see how your Good Shepherd laid down His life for you—suffering those stripes on His back, enduring the fiery wrath of God, pierced through by thick nails, the rivers of shed blood, you’ll know and believe that healing is yours!

You’ll believe that God loves you so much that He’s willing to give you everything you need to be whole—because He was willing to sacrifice Jesus like that for you.

“He who didn’t spare his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how would he not also with him freely give us all things?” ‭‭(Romans‬ ‭8:32‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

You and I could never pay the price for our shalom, but Jesus did. Hallelujah!

Know Who Is Your True Rewarder

“Servants, obey in all things those who are your masters according to the flesh, not just when they are looking, as men pleasers, but in singleness of heart, fearing God. And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. But he who does wrong will receive again for the wrong that he has done, and there is no partiality.” ‭‭(Colossians‬ ‭3:22-25‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Even when your boss is not looking, work diligently to help the company/household prosper and do well.
Even if your boss is not treating you well or compensating you fairly, continue to do excellent work, knowing that you’re really doing it for Jesus and He will restore you with more earthly blessings and give you eternal rewards as well.

Learn from Jacob’s story. No matter how his father-in-law Laban wanted to cheat him of his salary, Yahweh (the pre-incarnate Christ) made sure that Jacob was restored abundantly for all the years that he worked for little or no pay.

If you as a believer stubbornly insist on doing wrong even when you know it’s against God’s will, you will face the negative earthly consequences of your sin.
This is not eternal condemnation in the lake of fire, but rather the chastisement of God while you’re still alive on earth.

When God allows you to be chastised, it’s because He doesn’t want you to continue doing things that harm you and your loved ones—such chastisement produces godly sorrow, leading to true repentance for your profit (2 Corinthians 7:8-11).

Unbelievers don’t have the privilege of receiving such fatherly chastisement from God.
Unbelievers (like Ananias and Sapphira, Elymas the Sorcerer and King Herod) who stubbornly persist in sin can be struck severely by God if they try to harm believers or impede the advance of the Gospel.

Please don’t misunderstand, eternal rewards is not just receiving a golden cup with your name on it—it’s much more valuable and significant than that! I’m talking about authority over nations and positions of honor in God’s eternal kingdom!

The Gospel isn’t just about having a good life here on earth. It’s more about having a good eternal destination!

Questions one may have:
Who will receive eternal rewards?
What are they?
When will they be given?
Where will the rewards be given?
Why does Jesus give eternal rewards?
How will they be measured out to each person?

Well today is not just an ordinary day because I have got a chance to meet up with John White. John is an ex-British Marine who served his country and was sent to Afghanistan before his life changed 360 degree after he stepped onto a landmine. As you can see, John has lost both of his legs and his right arm.

The story of his journey of becoming a Marine and the experience in Afghanistan has really captured my interest but his story on how he tried to recover from the injuries and to make adjustment in his new life with the prosthetic legs and arm has made a big impact in my life.

Many of us wake up in the morning and still complaining a lot of things.
“Why my job sucks”
“Why i can’t afford luxury life”
“Why i don’t have a bigger car”
And the list goes on.

The annoyances of everyday life can easily overshadow the intention to count our blessings. Those optical illusions where we put our focus so much on the dark space resulted us hardly to see the light.
It really reminds me to what Oprah Winfrey said:

“Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.”

And way earlier than that, Al Quran has told us in Surah Ibrahim:

“If you are grateful, i will certainly give you more; but if you are ungrateful, my chastisement is truly severe.” (14:7)
