The Glenlivet Code is a mysterious Single Malt Scotch whisky, i.e. being released without cask information/ tasting notes. Inspired by the iconic British Code breakers, the limited edition is a labyrinth of flavours that will test the senses of even the most discerning whisky drinker. So, the whisky connoisseurs will have to discover & putting their Single Malt knowledge to the test.
Guess what?
Even as invited guests, all are required to 1st decode a word puzzle diagram on the invitation to get the venue location. The puzzle diagram consisted of numbers that represented an alphabet. Ha…Ha…
Frankly, SiennyLovesDrawing was failed for the 1st attempt in getting the venue right. After several attempts & with some tips given, she got it!! Yeah!!

The Glenlivet Code presents the brand’s smooth & fruity house style with some additional twists for a moment of definitive pleasure. Its release is supported by an interactive digital experience, inspired by the famous British code breakers & aims to test consumers’ knowledge & understanding of Single Malt whisky.
The Glenlivet Code digital, augmented reality experience invites whisky connoisseurs aka participants to scan a code on the back of their bottle carton using the Shazam app to enter a virtual underground room. Then, they will be greeted by a hologram of The Glenlivet’s Master Distiller, Alan Winchester, who will challenge them to decode the taste of the liquid by selecting 4 aromas for the nose & 4 flavours for the palate from thousands of possible combinations.
Wow!! That’s challenging!!
Not yet, after decoding the flavours, all the participants will be given a score which they can post on their social media to see how they rank against their peers.
Guess what??
The official tasting notes won’t be revealed until the end of the year to give Single Malt enthusiasts the time to discover & enjoy the liquid themselves.

Fermentation in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature around 28 degree
Prolonged maceration with the skins. The wine is aged for a minimum of 5 years & spends at least 24 months in French oak casks & American oak casks before rounding off in the bottle for minimum 24 months
Tasting notes of CV Gran Reserva
Personally she loves this the most among the 3️⃣. A very smooth fruity tasting. She has enjoyed a glass to end her tapas trails of the night
Ruby-red colour, deep & vibrant. Complex nose. It retains extraordinary well the black fruit aromas (i.e. blackberries, blue berries & plums). Gradually, it opens up to reveal smoky, toasted wood nuances, with spices & hints of minerals & tobacco. On the palate is smooth with soft & velvety tannins, great palate weight, extraordinary balance acidity. Elegant & complex aftertaste, with hints of coffee, chocolate, tobacco & dark fruit
Suggestions of food matches
Delicious with red meat, grills & roasts, game, mature & blue cheeses. Great with lamb stew with chestnuts sauce
Best served at 17-18 degree

Maceration with skins for approximately 20 days. The wine spends 18 months in French oak casks & American oak casks before rounding off its ageing in the bottle for 18 more months
Tasting notes of CV Reserva
Personally she doesn't really enjoy this middle weight, long complex finish. She felt a bit dry & lack of smooth tasting. Just enjoyed a glass
Ruby-red colour, bright & deep. Intense nose, with a great balance between the fruit (i.e. cherries, black plums, ripe blackberries) & the clean nuances coming from the oak (i.e. clove, pepper. vanilla & coconut), enriched by the complex aromas developed during the bottle ageing. Very attractive on the palate, with ripe fruit & spices, tobacco & toasted oak. Elegant & soft tannins, middle weight, long & complex finish
Suggestions of food matches
Delicious with red meat, grills & roasts, game, mature & blue cheeses. Great with grilled tuna steak/ grilled beef with black pepper
Best served at 16-17 degree

Established since 1895, Gordon & MacPhail has collected many rare whisky casks. This rare whisky will be auctioned at Sotheby's Hong Kong Auction on October 7 including Decanter #1 of the Gordon & MacPhail Generations 80-Years-Old release (#1 of 250 decanters in total) , framed original cask head, and a one-of-one signed lithograph of Sir David’s original, concept drawings, with an estimate of HK$800,000-$1,500,000. Very excited to have a chance to try this 80 years old rare whisky😍! With mahogany color with a red rim, it’s very complex & aromatic, it doesn’t taste like it’s 80 years old, still lively at this age, with toasty, cigar box, caramel, dried fruit, dried flower & toasted almond aromas, as well as dried fig, dates, dried plum, oak, toasty, cigar leaf, orange peel, dried flower, ginger tea & leather notes, the finish is soooo long! #Cheers!

今日晚餐:香菇蝦米芋頭炊飯,青花椒鹹蛋拌小黃瓜,泡菜豆皮旗魚黑輪湯。佐餐酒是蘇格蘭 Aberfeldy Madeira Casks 21年單一麥芽威士忌 highball。餐後甜點是台中津鎮果園之秋蜜梨切盤。
→ 以前見日本經常以澱粉配澱粉總覺新奇……比方以拉麵配飯、煎餃配飯、丼飯配烏龍麵,但回頭想想,其實台菜裡此類案例也不少,如芋頭米粉湯、芋頭鹹粥、金瓜炒米粉、地瓜粥等,且也是真心道道喜歡。而今晚,大甲芋剛上市,遂取以炊飯,溫潤溫醇、飽滿飽足之搭,好生對味。
→ 一般鹹蛋配蔬菜通常見於熱炒,但其實涼拌也不錯,清甘鹹爽,自有滋味。
