【憂鬱症小知識：林肯總統的自殺之詩】

亞伯拉罕·林肯（Abraham Lincoln，1809年2月12日－1865）
為第16代美國總統，他領導與經歷了其歷史上最為慘烈的戰爭——南北戰爭，由此他維護聯邦的完整、廢除了奴隸制、增強了聯邦政府的權力，並推動了經濟的現代化。也因此林肯常被稱作是美國歷史上最偉大的總統之一。

但林肯其實曾經深受小鬱亂入所苦。

林肯在二十五歲時初戀因病去逝，此後經常出現情緒抑鬱。之後四個孩子中有三個相繼因病過世。後來林肯本人因此得了憂鬱症。為了防止自殘，林肯從來不在口袋裡放小刀。

據說，林肯還寫過一首詩，名為《自殺獨白》（The Suicide's Soliloquy），刊登在1838年8月25號的撒加莫期刊（Sangamo Journal）上。

The following lines were said to have been found
near the bones of a man supposed to have committed
suicide, in a deep forest, on the Flat Branch of the
Sangamon, some time ago.

雖然林肯曾經因為被小鬱亂入而如此低潮，但他還是有努力的對抗小鬱。有報導指出，林肯自己想出了對抗憂鬱症的方法——閱讀剪報。林肯認為人民對自己的讚揚與肯定能幫助他舒緩低落的情緒，所以他把所有頌揚他的報章剪下來，放在口袋裡，在心情沮喪憂鬱時拿出來看，鼓勵自己、肯定自己 。
