Up, up, and away. 🎈⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ —————⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ Last hot air balloon photo - promise! Part of me still can’t believe that I went to both of the world’s major hot air balloon spots in the same year - Bagan and Cappadocia. Although the photos turned out a bit similar, both places are very different. ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ Bagan is still relatively new in development so there aren’t a huge amount of tourist amenities yet. Simple things such as finding a currency exchange and a place to eat were hard. But because of that, my experience there felt more adventurous and authentic. My favourite memory there was biking and checking out all the big and small temples that are out in the open. ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ Cappadocia is the stark opposite because its tourism industry is very well-developed. You could never run out of things to do here and I hardly scratched the surface during my 4 days there. If I had another day I would have loved to do camel riding amongst the valleys. But because it’s so touristy, the crowds became an issue, especially during sunrise. The sunrise photoshoots on the terraces are particularly not a happy memory! I did enjoy the Cappadocian landscapes though, and I’m so glad we rented a car so we could explore on our own pace.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Bagan or Cappadocia - which one’s in your list first?

This mystical land of magic and sand 🏜⁣ —————⁣ Riding a hot air balloon is in most people’s itineraries for Cappadocia. I personally opted not to, because I’m afraid of heights and was concerned overall. Instead, I booked a tour to go around Cappadocia on a vintage car. This red Chevrolet is from 1964 and it was so fun to see the Cappadocian desert landscapes on this mode of transport.
