隨著選舉臨近，美國人終於醒覺特朗普政策是損害經濟？遲不遲？

Donald Trump’s handling of the US economy is no longer benefiting his candidacy just weeks before election day, with a Financial Times poll finding more Americans believe the president’s policies are hurting rather than helping the recovery.

The FT-Peterson results add to an increasingly dire re-election picture for Mr Trump, who trails Democratic challenger Joe Biden by 9.1 points nationally, according to a Financial Times analysis of recent polls from RealClearPolitics.

美國國務院週一宣布，現時73歲的駐華大使布蘭斯塔（Terry Branstad）將卸任職務，在十月初離開北京。

綜合各美國媒體的報導，布蘭斯塔是前愛荷華州(Lowa State)共和黨州長，特朗普的早期支持者。在他任期內，中美貿易戰掀起連場風雨，中美關係轉差。他去年罕有地訪問西藏要求中國與達賴喇嘛或代表行實質性對話，也曾經要求在《人民日報》刊登文章但被因被中方批評，拒絕刊登（有關風波見BBC延伸閱讀文章）。

布蘭斯塔在80年代、習近平當上國家領導人前，在愛荷華州一個場合會面，有影片顯示兩人在台上碰杯又握手。中國外交部前發言人陸慷曾形容布蘭斯塔德是「中國人民的老朋友」。2012年，時任中國國家副主席的習近平重訪愛荷華州，布蘭斯塔德設晚宴招待。根據彭博社報道，布蘭斯塔德與習近平兩人對農業有興趣，所以關係良好。環球時報總編輯胡進在微博分析，美國一般都是在大選之後調換駐外大使，現在換布蘭斯塔德，顯得很突然。他指出，當初布蘭斯塔德就任駐華大使，中美輿論都對他能夠為促進兩國關係發揮作用有較高期待。

然而，這位「老朋友」面臨香港的抗爭、肺炎疫情和經濟戰的影響，在中國的工作經常遇到很大的阻力。在中美關係急劇轉差的漩渦中，他早在美國大選前，收到「命令」，要先離開北京。

這個舉動似乎告訴世界中美關係傾向不明朗，一切交由美國的選民11月用選票決定。這場選舉結果將會影響香港、中國和世界。

還有一個問題，駐華大使誰接任？

嗯，今天要教的英文，跟「兩顆爛蘋果挑一顆」沒關係。

最近看了不少 Donald Trump 和 Joe Biden 的新聞，每次看完都很慶幸我是台灣人，因為我們的候選人選項好像比較簡單直觀？(誤)。

Joe Biden 不是典型名校出生的總統候選人，他似乎也對於這件事情耿耿於懷。我曾經聽過紐約時報某記者用 "He's got a chip on his shoulder about not having attended an Ivy (常春藤)."

(他對於他沒有畢業於常春藤名校這件事情耿耿於懷。當你 have a chip on your shoulder 時，你因為不如別人優秀而生氣、耿耿於懷、心理不平衡)。

當然畢業於名校跟當總統的能力的關係還需要做相關性研究。但當他在 Syracuse University 法學院時，他也對全班唯一一個拿獎學金的事情說謊、同時也捲入剽竊 (plagiarism) 事件。

而對他政治生涯影響最大的剽竊事件莫過於在 1987 年他在民主黨內競選 presidential candidacy 時的演講，有一大段演講內容幾乎完全複製了英國勞工黨 Neil Kinnock 的演講，但卻說「他時時刻刻都在思考這些議題」。

Joe Biden 雖然在政界超過 30年，但是並沒有讓人太印象深刻的貢獻，很多人對他的喜愛來自於對他的同情 (悲劇角色)。他道歉了不少次，但很多人認為道歉的態度常常還是 "defensive"、"defiant"。 接二連三的事情對他的 personal integrity (人格正直) 造成不小的負面影響。

當政策面已經不夠強時，personal integrity 又受到影響時，我們可以說好險他碰到了一個 Donald Trump 當對手？或是選對了好副手？這就由歷史來評論了。
