Even if you have the perseverance to sit for nine years facing a wall, sitting is only one part of Zen.
While cooking, washing the dishes, sweeping, carrying water or chopping wood, you dwell deeply in the present moment.
We don’t cook in order to have food to eat.
We don’t wash in order to have clean dishes. We cook to cook and we wash dishes to wash the dishes.
The purpose is not to get these chores out of the way to do something more meaningful. Washing the dishes and cooking are themselves the path to Buddhahood - Thich Nhat Hanh in Fragrant Palm Leaves

【為什麼壞人有錢，好人沒有錢？】
Why are the Evil-Doers Rich, and Mr Good Guys Poor?

這支影片幾年前上傳到Youtube時，有觀眾留言問：

老師，不好意思，我想請問您 ：那些惡人今世可以賺到不斐的財富，是因為前世他們累積了不可思議的福報導致。

那麼佛教有種說法，就是我們累世輪迴，這一世就是靈魂繼承上世的修行程度。你修的好的地方（善緣福報）你修的不好的地方（惡緣惡報）都會帶來這一世讓你繼續修，最終目的就是修到大圓滿 然後成佛。

可是我的問題是，那些惡人如果上世能夠累積到這麼多的福報，那麼本質上他的靈魂就一定是善的居多，怎麼這一世會偏差的這麼遠呢？ 令人費解@@ 不好意思想請教老師...

我那時簡單的回覆：

您好。菩薩有隔世之迷，而且人之初，性混沌，遇到善緣，人會變善，遇到惡緣，人會變惡。

但問題是，修過福報的人，不一定是守五戒的人，因為他們可能不曾修過智慧，習性特重，便不會產生這定力不去犯錯。

打個比方，成龍享有巨大的財富和名氣，和他喜歡做慈善的心性有關係，但他還是犯了淫，因為定力不足，喜色成性。後代房祖名吸毒不爭氣，成龍受千夫所指，也是邪淫果報之一。

喜做善，不代表沒有在行惡。行了惡，又沒有懺悔，就會有這般善惡交叉的命運。但惡人再惡，善緣臨時也會有放下屠刀，立地成佛的一天，如佛陀弟子央掘魔罗。

When I uploaded this video on my Youtube channel 4 years ago, a viewer left a comment asking,

"Teacher, sorry but I wish to ask, those villiians can earn bountiful wealth because of the incredible good fortune they accumulated in their past lives.

In Buddhism, there is this theory: our souls in this lifetime is the product of our cultivation from past lives. Thus, for this life, you will continue to cultivate the areas you did well in (virtuous affinities & good fortune) and the areas you fail in (negative affinities & retribution).

The final goal is to accomplish Great Perfection and eventually, attain Buddhahood.

But my question is, if those villians accumulated so much good fortune in their past lives, then the essence of their souls should have more goodness in them. Why the vast difference in this life? This is perplexing. @@ Sorry I wish to ask Teacher ...”

My simple reply at that time:

Hi, a Bodhisattva will experience confusion between his past and current lives. When man is born, his nature is chaotic. He becomes virtuous when he meets virtuous conditions, and turns vile, when he meets malevolent affinities.

The problem is a person who has cultivated good fortune may not be a person who adheres to the five precepts. Because they may not have cultivated wisdom, they are still very prone to their habitual tendencies and lack the meditative strength to avoid committing sins.

For example, Jackie Chan enjoys enormous wealth and fame. This got to do with his fondness for doing charity. But he still committed sexual misconduct due to his lack of restraint. Thus his son, Jaycee Chan, was a drug abuser and let the family down. Jackie Chan was universally condemned and this is one retribution of his sexual misconduct.

A person doing virtuous deeds does not mean he is not doing bad deeds on the other hand. If there is no repentance after a bad deed is done, he will end up with a Destiny of good and bad interweaved in it.

But no matter how malevolent a villain may be, when his virtuous affinity approaches, there will come a day when he is willing to lay down the butcher's knife to become a Buddha, i.e. repent and be absolved of his past sins.

Just like Buddha's disciple, Angulimala.

【萬善之頭】The Origin of Virtuousness

今天是農曆七月初五，也是我唸報父母恩咒的第五天。

這咒我唸了十五的農曆七月了。

讀到許多觀眾留言，說因為我的直播，他們也在今年開始持這咒，我真的真的⋯⋯為你們的父母感到欣慰。😄

在華人的社會裡，一般來說，正正當當的賺錢孝敬父母、和顏悅色、奉公守法、傳宗接代，不做丟人現眼的事是基本的孝。

但這些在佛教裡，實屬小孝。

以這定義，我絕對是不孝女，因為有很多年我做生意負債時，一分錢都給不到父母，又不敢對他們坦白，只說沒錢。

好啦，如果您有本事，做生意成功，風光回鄉，讓您父母和祖宗十八代笑得見牙不見眼，那也只有中孝而已。

最大的孝，是修行，因為您能助您父母脫離六道，您們都不用再受輪迴之苦。

因此釋迦牟尼佛成佛時，祂的母親摩耶夫人便得升忉利天中，享天福。

您能先從一佛號、一佛咒開始，便已向修行的道路邁出第一步了！

不要小看報父母恩咒，因為這是釋迦牟尼佛所傳的。所以各位大德，千萬要記得這一點 - 一定要教您的孩子和您一起唸報父母恩咒！👧🏻👦🏻

做父母的，要懂得投資啊！百善孝為先，孩子小小年紀就懂得盡孝，就有了人最基本的良知，為自己種下了廣大的福田。就算以後您不在他們的身邊，他們也必會遇到貴人扶持，命運不會太壞，只因為他們是孝子孝女。

再說了，萬一您有什麼三長兩短，修行失敗，還有個後代可以助您！錯過了蓮花捷運，到不了佛國淨土，到天界做天人，總比擠在一堆骨灰盎裡好呀！😂

報父母恩咒：「南無密栗哆。哆婆曳。梭哈」
Nan Mo Mi Li Duo Duo Po Yi Soha

（我是修真佛密法的，因此此咒結尾，我是依著我師尊的唸音，唸「梭哈」。這代表圓滿、成就的意思。）

Today is the 5th day of the 7th Lunar month, and also my fifth day of reciting the Mantra of Repaying the Debt of Gratitude to Parents this year.

I have been reciting this mantra for fifteen years.

I read many comments from my viewers, that they started reciting this mantra this year after watching my Lives. I am so glad for your parents. 😄

In our Chinese society, generally speaking, the most basic forms of filial piety include:

1) making a honest living to give pocket money to our parents
2) being pleasant towards our parents
3) not breaking the law
4) carrying on the family lineage
5) not doing any shameful act

However, in the eyes of the Dharma, these are merely small acts of filial piety.

Going by this definition, I am definitely an unfilial daughter. Because there were many years when I got into debt from doing business and was unable to give my parents a single cent. I could not bring myself to tell them the truth and could only say I was broke.

Okay, if you are more capable than me congratulations on your big-time success in doing business! So you return to your homeland in triumphant victory and see your parents + ancestors of the past 18 generations grinning from teeth to teeth.

That is just the medium level of filial piety.

The biggest form of filial piety is spiritual cultivation. For you can help your parents to break free from the six realms of reincarnation and all of you will no longer have to undergo the sufferings of birth and death.

Hence, when Shakyamuni Buddha attained Buddhahood, his deceased mother, Queen Maya, ascended to Trayastrimsas Heaven to enjoy heavenly pleasures.

When you start reciting one Buddha’s name, or one Buddhist mantra, you have already taken your first step onto the path of Buddhist cultivation.

Do not belittle the Mantra of Repaying Debt of Gratitude to Parents, for it was expounded by Shakyamuni Buddha.

So to all my noble audience, please remember this very important point - you must teach your children to recite this mantra together with you! 👧🏻👦🏻

As parents, we should all be astute investors. Filial piety is the most important of all virtues. When a child knows how to be filial from a young age, he/she already has the most basic conscience as a human, and that will sow the seeds for fields of great blessedness.

Come one day when you can no longer be by your child’s side, your child will definitely meet many benefactors in the life path and not have a wretched destiny, because they are filial from young.

Moreover, if anything untoward happen to you and you fail miserably in your spritual cultivation, at least you still have a descendant to help you.

Should you miss the lotus train to the Buddha’s Pureland, to be a celestial being in the Heaven far surpasses the fate of being squeezed like sardines in a urn placed in the columbarium. 👻

報父母恩咒：「南無密栗哆。哆婆曳。梭哈」
Nan Mo Mi Li Duo Duo Po Yi Soha

(I practices the True Buddha Tantric Dharma, thus I follow my Root Guru’s recitation sounds and recite “soha” at the end of this mantra. This represents perfection and accomplishment.）

農曆九月初十九，就是普天下皆知的南無觀世音菩薩的出家日。其實並非佛教徒，凡是有華人的地方都曉得這尊大菩薩，甚至連外國人都懂，因爲祂的大慈大悲真的很攝人的心，也是我們學佛之人理應仿效的一個真諦。

提到祂，不能不提到祂的心咒，而這心咒是西藏人共同提倡唸誦的「六字大明真言」。 這咒不只是這麽簡單拿來持誦而已。在和別人說完佛法的時候，妳你也可以唸上這句「嗡嘛尼唄咪吽」。 因爲這個咒是代表光明和圓滿，也就是說妳你所說的佛法，對方能得到光明的加持，圓滿智慧的灌溉，那妳你本身也圓滿了妳你的功德，所以是有很多很多的意義。這個咒，就如我所說的，是光明咒，是專門來破除黑暗的。當妳你持到最后，妳你的心自然而然就會流露出一種光明。這光明就會破除妳你累世的無明，而得到佛慧。這時候，就是一種開悟，一種明心，再修下去就見性，見性了，才是真正的得證成佛。

在這星期六的菩薩出家日，妳你持誦祂的洪名也好，心咒也好，功德是一樣的。一個等於是呼喚，另外一個等於是直接觸碰菩薩的心來搭救妳你，或來加持妳你一件事的圓滿，所以佛號和心咒應該同等地尊重，跟同等地持誦才好。

這一天修菩薩的法，功德加倍！在家中，先刷牙沐浴，然後在壇城前，或家裏的淨處，不宜在臥床上，面向南無觀世音菩薩的佛像或唐卡，恭唸「南無觀世音菩薩摩訶薩」或「嗡嘛呢唄咪吽」1080遍或108遍，時間允許的話，可以唸了洪名，再加唸心咒，然後回向給祖先往生淨土，給家人某件事情能順利解決，或給自己。但，記得，要說的清楚而且只回向給一件事項。

南無觀世音菩薩以慈悲為名，這一天修祂的法，絕對有息災的一種能力。息災為先，因爲息災了，才能夠敬愛，才能夠增益，所以息災為首。

This coming Saturday, 31st October or the Nineteenth Day of the Ninth Lunar Month, celebrates the Renunciation Day of the world-renowned Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, or more commonly known as Guan Shi Yin Pu Sa. In fact, this Bodhisattva is not just known to Buddhists only. As long as there are Chinese people in that region, they will not be stranger to this Bodhisattva. Even the non-Chinese foreigners are aware, because the Bodhisattva's great compassion and mercy are really captivating. These qualities should be modeled by all Buddhists as a way of Truth.


At the mention of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, we must not forget to mention His mantra, which is the commonly known to and propagated by the Tibetans, known as the Six Syllable Mantra. This mantra is not simply for chanting only. When you are speaking the Dharma to others, you may also recite this mantra "Om Mani Pad Mae Hum" at the end of the session , because it represents light and perfection. It signifies that when you speak the Dharma, the other party also receives the blessing of the Light and the nourishment of perfect wisdom. In this way, you would also have perfected your own merits. There are so many meanings and essence to this mantra. Like I said, this is a mantra of Light, specially to eradicate Darkness. When you achieve accomplishment in this mantra, the Light would flow naturally from your heart, and vanquish your ignorance accumulated from aeons of rebirth. When that happens, you would have received the wisdom of Buddha, and would progress to realize your own Buddha-Nature and truly Buddhahood.
