Surrounded by beautiful mountains and lakes in Glacier National Park, I felt so lucky to be able to experience nature in this way. Like many national parks, this region was first inhabited by Native Americans, the Blackfoot Confederacy and the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of the Flathead Reservation. In 1895, the Blackfeet people were pressured to cede their land, and the Going-to-the-Sun road (which we were on) was completed in 1932 to provide greater automobile access. ☀️ We were not charged admission this weekend, so I will be donating what I would’ve spent to the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center. The missing and murdered Indigenous women epidemic is absolutely unjust — Indigenous women and children are murdered and sexually assaulted at rates up to 10x the average in the US. While I have the chance to enjoy the great outdoors, it comes at a cost much too steep, and I will continue to do my part to educate myself & others about the oppression that have occurred, and continue to occur. ☀️ Petition, donate, and stand with Indigenous people. Their land continues to be taken away, for OUR use, OUR pipelines, and OUR infrastructure. Have conversations with your friends. do not use “pow wow” or “spirit animal”; they are sacred and not yours to use. Do not wear headdresses or other appropriative clothing; support Native American artists and buy beadwork from *them* when you do. Call out phrases like “space colonization”. Remember that America was built on stolen land. #nojusticenopeace
