Collins Wetangula, the vice chairman of the student union, said that when the gunmen arrived at his dormitory, he could hear them opening doors and asking the people who had hidden inside whether they were Muslims or Christians. “If you were Christian, you were shot on the spot. With each blast of the gun, I thought I was going to die.” He said that when he heard the gunshots, he locked himself and three roommates in their room. “All I could hear were footsteps and gunshots—nobody was screaming because they thought this would lead the gunmen to know where they are,” he said. “The next thing, we saw people in military uniform through the window of the back of our rooms who identified themselves as the Kenyan military,” Wetangula said. The soldiers took him and around twenty others to safety. “We started running and bullets were whizzing past our heads and the soldiers told us to dive,” Wetangula said....

Sky’s the Limit: Photo 4 – Mwanza, Malawi – Day 87: Once Naomi and I had finally cleared customs and immigration for both Mozambique and Malawi, we took this tin can bus the rest of the way to Blantyre. Fifteen people crammed into eight seats without any air-conditioning. 📖Excerpt from Sky’s the Limit (link in bio): We pack up in the dark, and when dawn breaks, we board yet another bus that looks like it’s come directly from the demolition derby. It’s supposed to drop us off at the Zobue border post. From there, the plan is to cross into Malawi and find another bus that will get us to the hotel we’ve bartered with in Blantyre by the end of the day. Once the bus driver has all his passengers penned in like livestock, he puts his foot down on the gas, and we begin to lurch forward toward the border. He drives like a toddler does with his toy trucks, and dirt from the unpaved roads we’re traveling down flies through the open windows and cakes our clothes again today. The ride under the baking sun quickly becomes exhausting, and there isn’t much to look at other than the occasional thatched hut on the sun-drenched horizon. It isn’t until lunch that we reach the border. I couldn’t be happier to finally be leaving Mozambique behind. Although we only spent twenty-nine days here, it’s felt more like twenty-nine years. We’ve traveled over one thousand miles on what have got to be the worst buses known to man, and I’m hoping that maybe once we get to Malawi, not only will the travel conditions improve but Naomi and I will see it as a chance to start anew. The immigration office is a brick building no bigger than my old studio apartment on the outskirts of the tiny town of Zobue. I slide our passports over a sun-beaten wooden counter to a man in a light blue button-down shirt that’s three sizes too big for his pencil-thin frame. I give him my best attempt at a smile, but I’m already spent. It’s only getting hotter by the minute today. The officer flips through my passport, then Naomi’s, and then both of them a second time. 最近口罩管制鬆綁（liberalization/deregulation），聽說各大通路只要開賣盒裝口罩，一下子就搶購一空（sell our/sold out），看到這樣的爆買（buying spree）或是所謂的恐慌性搶購（panic-buying）相信口罩的確是一大重要的防疫物資，之前也有人說擁有很多口罩就像是很有錢，所以口罩好像就變成一種通貨（currency）了，說不定你就能用口罩去換其他物資了喔！

今天來分享一個英國地區，已經有30年歷史的歌劇藝術節

👉歌劇節歷史緣由
.
Garsington Opera 是一個位於英國有將近30年歷史，專門以歌劇為主的夏日藝術節
.
起源於1989年，由Leonard Ingrams與他的妻子 Rosalind 在英國 Oxford 牛津郡附近，接手一座名為 Garsington Manor 的莊園
他們在這個莊園扶植創辦成為一個戶外空間，一直到現在，固定成為英國地區的一個季節縣歌劇藝術節
.
一直到2011年，這個歌劇藝術節從 Garsington Manor 將演出場地搬到著名的 Getty 家族的 Wormsley Estate
.
👉為期六周的歌劇藝術節
.
目前，Garsington Opera 固定會在每年的五月底到七月中，挑選其中的六周時間作為歌劇藝術節表演日期
是英國地區，夏日期間特色藝術節慶之一
.
在這30年的歷史，已經成為英國牛津郡附近的藝術節指標
以歌劇為主的藝術節，每年都推出不同的歌劇製作，更在2017年成立藝術節的專屬管弦樂團
對於藝術家的培育更是非常用心

這種一年一次的歌劇藝術節，從製作到演出，都會是為了這為期六週而準備
樂團跟歌者之間會比較有默契，對於這些年輕藝術家也更有機會深入學習

👉非常正式服裝標準

Garsington Opera 是一個很正式的歌劇藝術節，設置在莊園的優美環境
與會的觀眾們會穿著非常正式的西裝與佯裝，整個活動其實也像是一種社交活動
大家並不會只是單純來欣賞歌劇而已
從開始之前的交流品飲
傍晚還沒日落就開始演出
再到中間中場休息會有較長時間，大家會在附設的餐廳坐下來用餐

Garsington Opera 很有特色是他的建築，每年在藝術節期間才會組裝的臨時性可拆式重複使用建築體
每年為了這個為期六周的歌劇藝術節，才會建造的表演場所，並不是四周全部圍起來
會讓整個表演舞台與觀眾席，跟四周的優美庭園風景作融合，形成有點半開放的演出視野

這30年以來，歌劇藝術節的表演節目有逐漸增加的趨勢
近年，Garsington Opera 一年一次的六周期間，會演出4部歌劇作品

像是在2019年的演出歌劇曲目就有包含
英國作曲家 Benjamin Britten 的The Turn of the Screw
奧地利作曲家 Mozart 的 Don Giovanni
法國作曲家 Offenbach 的 Fantasio
捷克作曲家 Smetana 的 The Bartered Bride

每年一定會演出一部莫札特的歌劇
從1989年到2019年，有將近28年個年度都有演出莫札特的歌劇

莫札特的歌劇是這個藝術節每年都會演出的作曲家，此次影音的費加洛婚禮是2017年的版本
這些年以來，已經演出過6次，分別在1989/1993/2000/2005/2010/2017
由於在這個歌劇藝術節製作過很多次，費加洛婚禮已經成為不可不看的經典

捷克作曲家 Bedřich Smetana 史麥塔納，以交響詩"我的祖國"為代表作，此次演出的歌劇 "交易新娘" 也是他的歌劇代表作品之一
Garsington Opera 歌劇藝術節是在2019年演出史麥塔納的歌劇，也是30年以來，首次演出史麥塔納的作品
這次製作的版本，下半場加入很多舞蹈成分，讓整個歌劇看起來非常"吸睛"好看😆
