    Orangutans' arms stretch out longer than their bodies, over two metres from fingertip to fingertip. Like us humans, they also have opposable thumbs on their hands and feet. These great apes are native to Sumatra and Borneo. They have a mostly arboreal lifestyle spending up to 90% of their time in the trees of the tropical rainforests they call home. However our orangutans here in Borneo actually spend more time on the forest floor than their cousins in Sumatra - one theory is that the absence of Tigers on our island has allowed them to descend from the trees and forage without fear. ⁠

    Easy for you to say, Sun bear. 🙄

    Being the smallest bear species with sharp claws, Bornean Sun bears are arboreal animals. Due to their unique curved-shaped claws, Sun bears are excellent at climbing and can climb up to 60 meters in height, usually to sunbathe or resting. They also use their claws to tear apart deadwood to obtain protein from small insects and termites.

    The silvery langur, or silvery lutung, is an arboreal old world monkey found in mangroves, coastal, and riverine forests throughout Sumatra, Peninsular Malaysia, and Borneo. While they have dark brown to black fur and grey tips (which gives them a silvery appearance), they are born with orange fur and hairless white skin on their face, feet, and hands. Their fur stays bright orange and doesn’t develop into their characteristic silver-tipped locks until about 3 to 5 months old. This bright colour helps mothers spot them in the forest and also helps protect them from predators as they are often colourblind and mistake orange for green. ⁠
