Aizanoi was once the Phrygian capital of Aizantis but over the ages, it also came under the rule of the Byzantines and Romans. It's incredible to imagine that 2 thousand years ago, this crumbling theatre would have held about 5,500 people shouting and cheering at the fascinating Greek actors and dancers of the time.
It's the second largest theatre in Turkey, so that gives us an idea of how important this city must have been during the 1st and 2nd century.
