I met a local Beijinger who brought me to Dajue Temple, somewhere in the far outskirts of Beijing, almost hidden in the forest. This Sarira pagoda contains the relics of the monk Jialing, who was abbot of the temple for a few years in the 1720s. It was rumoured that the ruthless Emperor Yong Zheng ascended the throne with the help of his secret agents and two mysterious monks, one of which was Venerable Jialing.
