美籍日本小提琴家Midori（五嶋綠/宓多里）獲得今年度甘迺迪中心榮譽獎（Kennedy Center Honors）的殊榮。

甘迺迪中心榮譽獎用以表彰終身為美國文化作出貢獻的傑出人士，也稱為甘迺迪中心終身成就獎。該獎項於1978年開始每年在美國華盛頓約翰·甘迺迪表演藝術中心頒發。之前古典音樂界得獎的有例如鋼琴家阿格麗希、指揮家小澤征爾與普列文、小提琴家帕爾曼、大提琴家馬友友等音樂家。

每年年初，甘迺迪藝術中心理事會提交一份候獲選人名單，其中包括全球知名的藝術家而以前落選的候選人。這些藝術家終身致力於美國和全球文化，領域包括音樂、舞蹈、戲劇、歌劇、電影和電視。之後從每一個藝術分支選出一名代表者，由委員會在年中的時候宣布。

每年的12月的第一個周末舉行頒獎典禮，這是一場沒有界線，沒有失望，沒有競爭的藝術界盛會。電視台也會全程攝製。
