生活隨筆#7 London Summer

嚴寒的冬天、濕冷的春天都不好受，大概從五月開始，同事們就在討論夏天何時來臨。「去年的這個時間我們已經有第一個熱浪呢」一位同事說，「對啊，可現在卻還在穿毛衣」另一位同事回應，搭配一個翻白眼。我沒有插嘴，腦裡在想，這或許是因為疫情，大家減少旅行，工廠停工，減少溫室氣體排放，氣溫自然下降，怎麼說也應該算是好事吧（沒想到中學的科學知識竟然在上班時派上用場，在我放空的時候）。

五月到七月，真正有夏天氣息的日子，應該不超過十日，當然，在那十天當中，同事們依然會談論天氣，一方面看得出來他們心情很好（應該是維他命D起的作用），但他們言語中還是要表達一些「不滿」，「熱死了，昨天睡不著」同事K說，「你家有風扇嗎？」同事E問我，「希望涼快的日子快點來到」同事W翻著白眼說。

見識過倫敦真正的炎夏，就會覺得香港的夏天還好，因為香港到處都是超低溫冷氣，而且走在街上總有瓦遮頭，不至於直接被紫外光直射；這邊恰恰相反，我現在工作跟住的地方都沒有冷氣（美術館裡當然有，但隔壁的辦公室沒有），走在街上，我感受到陽光打在臉上的灼熱感（甚至開始長雀斑），確實不好受。然而，如果在炎熱的夏天剛好吹來一陣風，然後你剛好最在河邊的樹下，樹影在你眼前溫柔的律動，配合樹葉的聲音、河水流過的聲音、鳥的聲音，甚至旁邊小孩在打鬧的聲音變成一個整體，有一種難以言喻的浪漫和舒暢感覺。

大概是因為一年只有那麼幾天可以任性地被陽光寵幸，所以特別珍惜吧。

我有一位同事叫Summer（以地道英國人來說，他們會覺得那是「奇怪」的英文名），有一位客人打來，她自我介紹的時候說，"I am Summer, the season"。還記得那天正正是寒冷的仲夏（聽起來很矛盾），聽到她這麼說，心頭覺得暖暖的。

大概這就是倫敦夏日給我的印象吧？

星期六去Brighton，希望當天會有大晴天（看到我也沾染了倫敦人的口氣，開始習慣聊天氣了）。

水浸眼眉不識死
美國加州的Dixie火災已經成為加州歷史上最猛烈火災。加州歷史上最猛烈，損失最嚴重火災之中，最嚴重七宗火災，有六宗發生在最近一年。
因為酷熱引起嚴重山火的地方不是只有加蚛，南歐和中東酷熱也引起山火。希臘的2021年8月1日氣溫超過攝氏47度，很多地方破了歷史最高溫記錄。希臘和土耳其山火比加州有過之而無不及。希臘山火直撲首都雅典，數千人緊急疏散。
氣候轉變引起的極端氣候會不停惡化，現在只是開場白，好戲在後頭。請看看中國水災，半壁江山淹在水中，鄭州水災被中共官方稱為五千年一遇洪水。鄭州水災剛剛退去，四州達州步鄭州後塵。即使廣州、上海和北京等一線大城市也逃不掉，照樣被水淹。
中共興建的水庫沒有防洪功能反而加劇旱災和水災災情。例如三峽大壩，要有防洪功能就要有足夠蓄水量在暴雨時蓄水，暴雨過後緩慢放水。三峽大壩要有250公尺高才有防洪功能。這個高度，絕對做不到。大壩最高蓄水位只有175公尺。暴雨時一定要洩洪引致下游水災。旱季時為了蓄水發電而將雨水截住引致下游大旱。
同樣地，加州人的環保觀念是保護樹木讓樹木大面積老化，火災更加容易發生。幾天前被燒光的Greenville不是新市鎮而是百年老鎮，一直安然無恙。它被燒光因為森林管理不善，不是市鎮興建在山火危險區。
到了現在，灣流快要完全停下來。人們還在想著怎樣賺錢發達，關心美女的長腿有多長，胸前豪乳有多大，奧運拿了多少金牌，名人緋聞，醇酒美食.........。香港還在搞國安法，中共排外，取消中小學英文課，停發普通護照，大搞文革II...........。
我不是說笑，今年冬季將會有冰河feel。到時，我們一定要面對現實。這是不見棺材不流淚。一定要有絕世大災難，去到無法挽救程度，人類才會醒覺。
灣流不是唯一受到影響的海洋環流。環流將赤道熱水送到北極附近降溫，將北極附近冷水送到赤道升溫。失去環流就是失去調節全球溫度功能。有些地方遭受熱浪和山火，有些地方遭到暴雨和水災，有些地方被冰雹打至稀巴爛，有些地方嚴寒，七月大雪.........。
北極冰層溶解令海水淡化，環流失去循環動力。你不關心嗎? 對，你現在不關心。到了你關心的時候，已經太遲。
蟑螂生命力很強，即使核爆也能活下來。可是，蟑螂肯定捱不過冰河時期，有絕種危機。可能你認為蟑螂絕種是好事，但是，蟑螂也捱不下去，人類可以嗎?

The state of Texas is known for its long, hot summers and mild winters. That’s why the 🔖freezing weather that hit Texas last week 🔖took everyone by surprise. Normally, the jet stream keeps 🔖swirling cold air—known as the “polar vortex”—trapped in 🔖the Arctic. But last week, the jet stream 🔖dipped south, bringing 🔖frigid weather all the way south to Texas.

The series of winter storms that swept across Texas brought snow, ice, and some of the coldest temperatures the state has ever experienced. Temperatures in Dallas, Austin and San Antonio were lower than those in Anchorage, Alaska, and snow fell all the way to the Mexican border!

Because storms like these are so rare here, Texans—and the state’s 🔖infrastructure—just weren’t prepared for the effects of 🔖extreme cold weather. 🔖Frozen natural gas pipes and ice on power lines caused outages that left millions without gas or electricity, and icy roads resulted in thousands of accidents.
這類的暴雪在德州相當罕見，德州人與當地的基礎建設都沒有準備好應對此極寒天氣。結凍的天然氣管線、結冰的電線桿造成大規模停電，上百萬人斷瓦斯斷電，結冰的路面也導致了數千起車禍。

Left without power to heat their homes, people resorted to extreme measures to stay warm. Some ran their cars in their garages, and others ran generators indoors, resulting in hundreds of cases of carbon monoxide poisoning. By the time temperatures started to rise again, dozens of Texans had died, mostly from road accidents, 🔖carbon monoxide poisoning and 🔖hypothermia.
斷電無法使用家中暖氣，人們只得採取極端手段保暖。有些人在自家車庫發動車子，有的在室內開發電機，造成幾百起一氧化碳中毒事件。在氣溫回升到正常溫度之前，數十名德州人死亡，多數死於車禍、一氧化碳中毒以及失溫。

So are there any special terms for weather events like this? The most common term is ✏“cold snap,” which means a sudden short period of very cold weather. Why is it called a cold snap? When you snap your fingers, the sound is sudden and short—just like a cold snap. Another term with the same meaning is ✏“cold wave.” Although “cold wave” isn’t as common as “cold snap,” the opposite term, “heat wave,” is commonly used. Another related term is ✏“cold spell,” which usually refers to a period of cold weather longer than a cold snap.
有什麼詞可以形容這樣的天氣狀況呢？最常用到的詞是「cold snap（短暫的氣溫驟降，類似中文的「霸王級寒流」）」，指突然來襲的短期極寒天氣。為什麼要用到snap（打響指）這個字？打響指的聲音既突然又短促──就像這突如其來的天氣一樣。可以用的另一個詞則是「cold wave（冷浪）」，這個字雖然沒有cold snap常見，不過它的相反詞 heat wave（熱浪）倒是很常見。最後一個詞則是「cold spell」，通常用來形容比cold snap更長的寒流。

4 young people participating in the M21 hosted the "very traveler mission: care for children"
With the aim of visiting a tribe in the northwest of Siberia, Russia. We visited the Russian Siberian school children are orphans. The process was hard, but everything was meaningful.

Salekhard is located in the Russian Siberian Arctic Circle, a city with only 500 years of history. Because of the remote location and cold weather. At first Salekhard was for discharging the political prisoners. As the entrance to the Nenets, we would like to take you to visit the non-popular tourist destination of the Arctic city - Salekhard ... We could see the midnight sun in Salekhard too!

From Hong Kong to the Russian capital of Moscow, and then fly to the Earth is the only one located in the Arctic Circle on the city: Salekhard, launched a journey to explore the polar children dream ...

This Russian Siberian journey really make their own growth is not small! I was in the journey to do the photographer, these films are in the original film with their own personal feelings and the production of the trip are in the Youth Association M21 official channel.
