Scarborough Fair 的歌詞曲調約略追溯到十三世紀的英格蘭。
史卡博羅市集(Scarborough Fair)與綠袖子 (Green Sleeves)，並列英格蘭最有名的民謠
這是一首古老的 謎歌 (riddle song)---用一些很難達到的要求，來考驗對方對自己的感
情，這其實是一種含蓄的愛的表現。


Scarborough Fair是中世紀的一個定期市集(現今英國有個小鎮正叫做Scarborough
Fair)，一直到1788年停止之前，傳統上於8月15日開始，持續45天。

歌詞第二句唱到了四種香草:香芹/荷蘭芹(parsley)、鼠尾草(sage)、迷迭香(rosemary)
和百里香(thyme,其發音同time),分別代表愛情的甜蜜、力量、忠誠和勇氣。

此曲因賽門與葛芬柯(Simon and Garfunkel)爲電影<<畢業生>>
改編為主題曲(當年曾超過了披頭四,登上了1968年唱銷歌曲排行榜的榜首)
而走紅全球,至今已有無數的翻唱版本。
