Taiwan (Republic of China) is an amazing country with wonderful people and food (just look at the queue in front of machi machi 麥吉 at regent place). Although we display the four standard requirements of a state laid out in the Montevideo Convention, and we have independent economic and diplomatic identity, we still lack formal recognition from most countries and remain at a severe disadvantage because of suppression of People’s Republic of China (the mainland) with its refusal on dual recognition, where a country can choose to establish formal relation with BOTH taiwan and china. We as a rather small country with a population approaching 24 million, however, is a relatively substantial trading partner to Australia, being the eighth largest export market. The recognition of a state may be express or tacit, and Australia has supported the development on an unofficial, basis of two-way economical and cultural contacts for the past decades, and i am here to ask you to petition to help make the ties between Taiwan and Australia formal diplomatic relations.
