小逸仙食堂: traditional sichuan restaurant situated right on the 2nd floor of Taipei Main Station! Authentic and inexpensive, the restaurant displays bold flavours to preserve of Sichuan cuisine, where the chef evokes his/her magic in highlighting the sharpness and spiciness in the dishes.
Out of all the scrumptious dishes, 香辣豆花牛, Mala beef douhua stroke a chord for me since it is rarely found in Taipei. This is my First time witnessing the savory douhua in Taipei; where the subtle sweetness of douhua balances with the spicy beef and unveils a tantalizing fragrance of the spices!
“酸菜魚 Fish with Pickled Mustard Greens” was another one of my favorites. The fish was immersed in the flavors of the chili and pickle, while the clever addition of radish kicked in the sweetness. Moreover, unlike the other fish dishes with pickled mustard greens I’ve already tried, the broth of this was one wasn’t oily, but rather rich and ambrosial.
Lastly, “夫妻肺片 Sliced beef/ beef-tripe in chili sauce” which rightfully translate to “husband & wife lung pieces” covered the tender pieces of meat with generous amount of spices and sichuan pepper. It’s delicate intertwined taste was both numbing and spicy- perfectly suited for the name as it resonated a marriage .
